Ripples of Shadow Chapter 6 - Hark the Dragon's Call
“Well there ye be. I was wondering if you had survived last night.” The newcomer laughed as he clapped Rash on the back. Rash just looked at him bleakly, returning clasped arms and went back to work. The dwarf introduced himself as Hendrig to Dro’gath and Kaihlyn, and set about getting his own gryphon ready.
“Kaihlyn, if I may ask, there are three gryphons set aside here. How do you and your…companion intend on reaching Northrend?” Mitsume queried in between her packing.
“Oh, I had other arrangements made before hand. Our ummm ride will be here shortly. Mmm yes. He should be here very soon.”
“He?” Mitsume asked, but Kaihlyn merely quirked an eyebrow and laughed. Just as Mitsume made to turn, a sound overhead caught her ears. She looked up and gasped. A massive red flying beast was descending on the aviary. It was at least four or five times the size of the snowy gryphons that they were tending to. Baelof grunted, and Hendrig merely chuckled at Mitsume’s reaction. The beast neared the stone, made a couple more flaps of its enormous leathery wings, then finally settled itself. The thing resembled a large lizard. That is if lizards had a wingspan that was twice again as tall as a man. It turned its massive head to Kaihlyn, it’s yellow eyes searching hers, waiting.
“Ah, Narithstraz, so good to see you again.” The beast…nodded to her when she spoke and opened its mouth, revealing incredibly long, and sharp, teeth.
“Kaihlyn, as always a pleasure.” The thing spoke! Or rather rumbled. “My kin arrived at Silvermoon a short while ago, they were none too happy with their intended riders.” Mitsume would have said the beast smiled, if that was possible.
“Ah yes well, they will get over it. Narithstraz we are about ready here. Dro’gath and I have very few possessions. I do hope you’re not too tired to fly again so soon.”
“Dragons do not tire too easily Kaihlyn. No, I am quite well enough to fly to Northrend. My brethren await my return to Wyrmrest.”
A dragon! So that’s what the beast is. Mitsume's thoughts raced. How could she have a dragon as a personal envoy? I’ve only read about them… Rash interrupted her thoughts with a hand on her shoulder. Everything was in order; it was time for them to depart. Mitsume, Hendrig and Rash all mounted their gryphons while Narithstraz extended a forearm for Dro’gath and Kaihlyn to climb up onto his back. They said their farewells to Baelof and took off into the sky. They flew north, to a land blistered with cold winds and ancient magic. To a land where the Titans first left their mark on the world. To a land where one being reigned supreme. They flew to confront the Lich King. |
